Key To Europe: team selected!

The work on the new "Key to Europe" started! The team was selected by the CD, the editor-in-chief, Veronika Zagar and the PRWG. We received 28 applications (!) for all positions! All accepted applicants have been informed and have been subscribed to the main mailinglist, the Key-L. Thanks to all applications we received!
The next edition of the Key to Europe - AEGEE's yearbook, will be available at the Agora Magusa in Spring 2009. Good luck to the team! :-)

Postponing of elections of PRWG

The first round of the fall elections of the PRWG finished without results. Four positions in total are open: our secretary, our treasurer (half year period), and two general board members (IT&PR and projects). Two brave and motivated candidates applied, however, we were missing a member for the post of the secretary. When a treasurer, a seceratary or a speaker is missing any working group of AEGEE cannot exist according to our statutes.
This is why the election committee (Patrick & Sjuul) and the board of the PRWG (Nadine, Vio, Isa, Gunel, Maria and Jorge) decided together to postpone the fall elections.
On december 2nd, the election committee will open the elections again!
When you are interested in running as a candidate in this elections and you have any questions, feel free to ask the board of the PRWG anytime :-)

Shoud out loud! - training with support from European Youth Press

Letizia Gambini from the board of the European Youth Press (www.youthpress.org) joins the team of "Shoud out loud! - Training for creativity and communication for Youth NGO's and projects"! The team of the training for advanced communications, Arleta, Basak, Gunilla, Aga and Nadine, welcome her very much! :-) Good luck and good working together!

Veronica & Nadine @ European Youth Media Days in Brussels

For the second time, the European Youth Media Days took place in Brussels. 200 young journalists from all over Europe had the chance to experience media and media making for three days, live in the European Parliament. In several workshops the participants had the chance to deepen their competencies about media making or entering entire new fields of media making. The choice was among the typical media channels as print media, radio, tv, online and photography. Additionally, the participants enjoyed several panel discussions about the role of the media in Europe, the ceremony of the first journalist award of the European Parliament as well as presentations of several departments within the European Parliament. The event was organised from the European Parliament in cooperation with European Youth Press.
Veronica (editor-in-chief Key to Europe) and Nadine (PRWG) enjoyed the event a lot and made a lot of new contacts with media makers from all over Europe!

PRWG board and members meeting

Since years, the first PRWG board and members meeting took place! From 29th till 30th of september, seven members of the PRWG gathered in Köln. Almost two days and a rich agenda, so what did we do? The first day we used to accomodate ourselves at the University of Köln, getting to know everything, made some shopping for the coffee breaks. Naturally, we then turned towards the content part of the day, getting insights into the PRWG, its role and its place in AEGEE. Many questions were raised, many answers could be provided. We ended the day with a brainstorming about the added value of the PRWG membership.

Tuesday, we continued the brainstorming before we moved to the concrete activities of the PRWG. We used this as an entry to the strategic plan 2008 of the PRWG and to gather ideas and concrete suggestions for activities and events in 2009. In the end we started to define the positions of the board more detailed, thus, giving not only the description of the task but also defining competencies and requirements for these positions. Surprisingly, we re-arranged the distribution of the tasks and shaped the positions newly according to the present needs.

On our last day, wednesday, we continued with the description of the board positions and got an insight into the newly created PR-LTC package "Communicate!", the first of its kind, enabling locals to conduct their own two-day training courses in public relations only.

After a small closure, all together, we took the route towards the Agora Aachen!
Special thanks to all the participants of that meeting, Vio, Gunel, Maria, Georg, Laure, Francesco and Nadine!
Thanks also to Thilo Zimmermann for being our contact person, arranging all facilities as well as lodging places for us all!

Stay tuned for the reports on our activities and the open call for the board elections!

PR Network for AEGEE in cooperation with the Network Commission

PRWG understands the importance of networking and connecting PR in AEGEE on European and local level. This is why PRWG decided to establish a PR Network with help of the Network Commission. The basic principle of the PR Network is to have key people also known as PR Subcommies who will connect PR on European (PRWG) and local (antennae) level. Each PR Subcommie will be responsible for the area of his/her Network Commissioner.

The basic tasks of PR Subcommies include:
- help for antennae doing their local PR activities;
- coordination of all communication to antennae;
- reporting requests of antennae regarding PR to PRWG;
- bringing strategy, ‘corporate’ vision of AEGEE and European PR innovations from the European level to the local level;
- serving as recruiting for PR on the European level;
- visiting PR events (like LTCs or PR actions) of a PR Subcommies’ neighboring antennae as a trainer/advisor/guest.

For this purpose, 2 communication platforms for responsible representatives of PRWG, NetCom and PR Subcommies was created: a mailinglist NETPR-L and a group ‘AEGEE PR Network’ on Facebook.

We are looking for further cooperation with antennae and fruitful work of current seven PR Subcommies.

If you are also interested in becoming a PR Subcommie, please feel free to contact the board of the PRWG anytime (prwg-board-l@aegee.org). In particular, the following regions of Europe still needs to be covered: Balkans, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

News Bulletin ready to print!

After three months of intense working tons of emails, we can proudly announce that the new News Bulletin Fall 2008 is ready to print! The new edition of AEGEE's internal member magazine will be send to the printing house on monday, 1st september. We expect it to be available at the Fall Agora in Aachen.
The new edition is divided in three sections. While the first section is dealing with the theme of knowlege transfer, the second chapter informs you about past events and projects in AEGEE. The third chapter provides you with information about the new CD, the ultimate AEGEE-Quiz, a horoscope and much more! In total, the team and the editors managed to fill 50 pages for you :-) The layout was done by a friend of one of the team members. Stay tuned for more information about YOUR next News Bulletin!

Future cooperation between the PRWG and the Comité Directeur

In few days the new Comité Directeur will start into their term which till take till the Fall Agora 2009. Together with the CD Eskisehir-Aachen, the cooperation between the bodies went very well. An interim PR-Plan was designed and many activities were started and are still ongoing. Within the CD to come, the task decision for public relations looks as follows: Tena will be in charge of the internal communication while Robin is responsible for the external communication, external representation and the webpage.
During the strategic meeting mid of August in Brussels, Nadine had the chance for a chat with Dragan, Robin and Tena. Subject were the publications in AEGEE but also the cooperation with the PRWG in the future. The Comité Directeur will think about their expectations towards the PRWG and will communicate that soon.
PRWG is looking forward to a good cooperation and many successful activities in the future! :-)

Public Relations Working Group at Spring Agora Ljubljana 2008

Dear PRWG members,

Last week, a beautiful Spring Agora 2008 took place in "the most beautiful town in the world" - Ljubljana.

Public Relations Working Group was very present and active, and if we take into consideration all the congratulations messages we received, we can say that it was the most visible moment of PRWG. (At least during my 2 years as board member of PRWG).

What made us so visible?

1. The M(eye) blog - http://m-eye-agora.blogspot.com/

A motivated team kept on writing articles and posting news: Maria Morozova, Marino Bresciani, Anca-Maria Oita, Vaggelis Monoguios, Verena Kitz, Nadine Karbach, Percin Imrek, Jorge Reis together with me.
When coming back from Ljubljana, I found several congratulations emails on my personal address and also on PRWG's account. It is always a nice feeling to receive feedback from the network.
And I am so very glad that the blog was well received and enjoyed !!

2. Our activity report

Was the largest one of all the WG's. Nadine had quite a problem to fit everything in 3min, but she managed to do it very well. Some of the WGs did not have a power point presentation and some of them did not even show up on stage to present something.

3. The small surprise from Laure

On Friday around noon, the Chair announced "Laure Onidi wants to make a small announcement". Then Laure went on stage and started talking about all the work she had had since the resignation of the PR Director after Agora Eskisehir and how she would have never made it without PRWG Board. The beautiful words shiverred us all, but this was not all, she went on and called us on stage to give us a small present - a red scarf. (The coulour was chose according to PRWG Identity ;) )
The moment ended with lots of hugs, kisses, tears, applause and of course, pictures!

4. The "imPRoving publications" Workshop

On Thursday afternoon, Nadine Karbach lead the "imPRoving Publications – It’s all about publications!" workshop together with Arleta Bojke.
The participants had the chance to find out more about AEGEE's publications, about what it means to make a publication (from the very first open call until distribution) and in the end they had a funny test in order to find out who can they be in a editorial team (editor-in-chief, layouter, interviewer, etc.).

5. The Working Groups Booklet

After a few adventures with the WG Booklet we were able to have them in Ljubljana and spread them among the participants.
A beautiful nice booklet made its way on the registration desk of AEGEE Europe, in the plenary, in the gym, everywhere.

6. The first PR LTC in Mainz Wiesbaden - Communicate!

I think it was the most promoted event during Agora. From boxes of matches to posters sticked in the toilets everybody found out about the first Public Relations Local Training Course which is organised in cooperation with PRWG and will take place in Main Wiesbaden, between 15th -18th of May.

And for those of you who have not been present in Ljubljana here you can find a short overview: http://picasaweb.google.com/prwg.board/SpringAGORALjubljana2008

In the end, I would just like to thank all of you who contributed to the best semester of Public Relations Working Group and who have made of it a very active group.

Work must go on!!

In response to changes in the world of communication, AEGEE needs to create an own new, catchy and visible visual identity, basing on AEGEE's values. Therefore the PRWG in co-operation with the Comité Directeur created a Working Team on AEGEE's Visual Identity. The team consists of:
- Bartek Kotowicz (coordinator)
- Marek Urban
- Michal Majewski
- Ramon Martinez
- Freddy Lopomo and
- Mateusz Zapart

These six guys divided already the tasks and will start with an analysis of AEGEE's current viusal identity. Then they will create a proposal for a new visual identity - having a look also at the visual identity of other students associations - which will be presented to the PRWG, the Comité Directeur and the network. If the proposal will be accepted, they will also implement it.

PRWG is curious about their results and ideas!

New Edition of Working Groups Booklet

Do you know how many Working Groups we currently have in AEGEE? What are their current projects? What will come up next year?

It will take a while to surf on all websites of all working groups and get informed, but in 3 weeks it will be very easy. If you come to Agora Ljubljana, just pick one of the booklets with Francois on the cover, our new mascot with many arms and as AEGEE addicted as we are. In this booklet you will find all important information in brief about our Working Groups in AEGEE to inform yourself and your local members who were not so lucky to get a place in Slovenia .

The work on WG Booklet is in progress and it will be ready until Agora. I want to thank all Working Groups for their contribution and, of course, my great team who is still working hard to finish work in time. I want to say many thanks to our designer Krisztián who helped out at short notice and had the idea for Francois.

So follow our smart guy through your way to this booklet and find your place in AEGEE.

Open Call - Join the team of the "imPRoving publications"-campaign

AEGEE’s publications need an update! Around 22 years after the first edition of any AEGEE publication was published, time has come to review the most important publications in AEGEE!

They need to be improved in their appearance and content, in terms of distribution and finances and of course regarding human resources! Besides that, long lasting evaluation criteria to proof the success of our publications need to be discussed, decided upon and monitored.

Therefore, the Comité Directeur in cooperation with the Public Relations Working Group are looking for team members to take care on these improvements!

Maybe you are the one, we are looking for?

_ you are familiar with AEGEE, its structure and have gained some experience?

_ you have some experience in the field of publications? (editing, lay-outing, advertisement, project management)

_ you have a sufficient level of English to work in a European team?

_ you are available the upcoming six months, willing to take responsibility within the campaign and motivate to join a meeting with your team members?

_ you want to make a difference and contribute actively to improve AEGEE?

Are you ready for a challenge? Then it is your turn now!

Send your motivation letter, give us an impression of you and explain why you are the one we are looking for!

Improving.publications@googlemail.com till April, 11th.

More information on the campaign: www.wg.aegee.org/prwg --> activities/publications

We are looking forward to your application!

With best wishes,

Your Comité Directeur and your board of the Public Relations Working Group

PRWG workshop at the EBM in Delft

In AEGEE, one of the best ways of advertising our events and activities is through publications, such as Key to Europe, One Europe Magazine, News Bulletin…, amongst others. Therefore, due to the importance of publications in AEGEE, a workshop was held at EBM Delft about publications, with the title “Evaluate it, Shape it, Make it – Publications in AEGEE”.

During this workshop we discussed the production cycle of a publication, since the first open all for the editorial team until the final distribution of publications. From this discussion two main problems raised: transportation and printing, both of them coming, actually, from the money problem. Printing the publications in different printing houses or printing everything in one printing house can be a way out to solving money issues.

During this first discussion, some ideas and suggestions were made on how to improve publications in AEGEE and their visibility. Publications are not well known among AEGEE members, it takes too much time for them to reach the targeted members and the target group of each publication is not always clearly defined.

On the second part of the workshop, participants brainstormed about what an ideal publication should consist in, taking into considerations a separation between internal and external publications. We then continued with 3 ideas of publications, of which extracted one, we defined its target group, the means of reaching it (using IT technologies, such as PDF, Newsletters, websites and Videos, etc.), its content and objectives.

As a final result from this workshop, the main idea is that publications do need to be restructured and stated clearer why they are created, thus, another workshop on improving publications is needed, as participants definitely showed interest on it.

If you want to read more about the PRWG workshop in Delft, you can find the detailed minutes on our mailing list PRWG-L!! Or you can simply join our future workshops on publications … maybe in Ljubljana … who knows??

PRWG Renewal

Dear PRWG members,

the Public Relations Working Group is currently consisting of 68 members. Some are members already for quite a long time, others are new and fresh. We, the current board of PRWG, want our working group being active, since this is the purpose of an AEGEE-body. Most of the time the board is working on the various activities. Thus we were asking ourselves, who are our members? Why did they join PRWG? What do they want to do in PRWG? How do they want to become active and how can we involve them better in the PRWG projects and activities?

To find an answer to these questions and to figure out, who are the members that still want to be active, we start a renewal of PRWG. We have sent an e-mail with a small questionnaire to every PRWG member to make sure that he/she is an active member, is frequently checking his/her e-mails, wants to be part of a European Working Group of AEGEE and is still seriously creative :-)!

As a member of PRWG you can become active in our activities and projects. Furthermore you can candidate for a board position and you have voting right during elections.

If you are a member of PRWG and have not yet received the e-mail with the questionnaire, please contact the PRWG board (prwg.board[at]aegee.org). Your membership will be deleted if you do not reply to the e-mail until 30th of March 2008.

Looking forward to a lot of enthusiastic and motivated PRWG members :-),

PR subcommies

PRWG is currently working on developing a PR subcommies network. As we believe that sometimes the locals miss news, updates, opportunities, open calls etc., due to several reasons as the English level, technical problems, lack of motivation or others, we have thought this PR subcommies system in order to ensure the information flow between European level and local level. Also we hope that this constant knowledge transfer about PR will help the new people in their upcoming AEGEE activity and open new paths for PR enthusiasts.

PRWG would like to lift some weight off Netcom’s and other bodies’ shoulders that are responsible of the network, while PR subcommies will take the role of fulfilling the need of knowledge and information for all PR matters. And after this system will be successfully implemented, there will be many PR lovers that will be ready to help AEGEE in terms of PR.

PRWG has created a mailing list (PR-network-l@aegee.org) that will gather the PR subcommies in it and will sustain the contact between PRWG, CD and the subcommies. PR subcommies will create lists that will include the PR directors of the locals of their Networks, through which they will ensure the information flow and knowledge transfer from the European level to the local one.
Now PRWG is going to appoint PR Subcommies with the help of the Netcom. The people involved in this task are the PR Subcommies, the Netcom, the CD, the PR directors and all the other PR enthusiasts who would like to get active.

If you are excited about the idea and want to be a part of this small project, feel free to contact us, through the website, through the blog or by email.

Nadine Karbach (PRWG Speaker)

Key to Europe 2008

The preparation of the 2008 edition of the Key to Europe has started.

It will be a mixture of traditional structure and new elements put together in a professional layout. So be excited and run to get one in Ljubljana.

The team for Key to Europe was selected. Gokhan Bozkurt is now the new Chief-Editor for this year. Among the happy editor of this edition, we have Verena Schmidt, Violeta Joitoiu, Nadine Karbach, Julia Hoffmann, Guleçe Senel, Barteck Kotowicz, Isabell Schroder, Marek Urban, Tika Tsertsvadze, Ramon Martinez, Arleta Bojke, Uygar Kilic, Laure Onidi, Christina Pototska, Maria Nomikou, Burcu Becermen, Sander Kahveciler, Dragan Stojanovski and the SUCT.

As there is not much time left until the upcoming Agora, where the next K2E will be distributed, the whole team is working hard to match the tight timetable. First, everybody introduced himself/herself to the others by mailing list, followed by a hot discussion about the structure, which topics have to be kept in the Key and what needs to be changed. After all, the editor in chief put all ideas together in a working frame.

All tasks are divided among the editorials now, the layout will be done by Uygar Kilic, so time to become creative and start writing!

Stay tuned....

Cooperation between PRWG and the CD

Unexpected, the attention of the Public Relations Working Group of AEGEE was caught by urgent support for AEGEE-Europe.

New steps and priorities for the PR of AEGEE-Europe needed to be defined for the upcoming months. Together with Laure Onidi, President of AEGEE-Europe and contact person towards the PRWG, we managed to accomplish this task for the satisfaction of all involved. After four weeks of intense communication, we defined a good amount of activities to be started in 2008.

For example:
  • the redefinition of AEGEE's visual identity,
  • the project of translation press releases about multilingualism in AEGEE and research on national media for the distribution,
  • the re-structuration of AEGEE's publications as well as developing methods to make AEGEE's results visible.

We as the PRWG looking forward to these tasks and for a good cooperation withAEGEE-Europe.
